This work involves the installation of new telecommunications lines, primarily through underground construction and existing utility poles.

The project will be carried out in multiple phases over time. Residents can expect to see crews working in neighborhoods, primarily within public rights-of-way and utility easements. In some cases, access to areas behind homes or businesses may be necessary. Metronet and its contractors are expected to notify residents in advance and take steps to minimize disruption.

Before construction begins in any area, utility lines will be marked with temporary paint or flags to avoid damage. Property restoration is part of the process, and Metronet is responsible for returning disturbed areas to their original condition once work is complete.

This project is not managed by the City of Battle Creek, but the city is working closely with Metronet to ensure residents are informed and that the work proceeds safely and respectfully.

1. Locate Existing Utilities
Crews identify underground utilities and mark their locations with flags and landscape-safe paint in yards, as well as along roads and sidewalks.

2. Expose Existing Utilities
Construction teams enter work areas and begin digging to expose existing utilities. This step helps minimize damage when crews install our fiber lines.

3. Place Conduit and Fiber
Crews place conduit pipes then pull fiber through them. Total construction time varies based on factors like neighborhood size and weather.

4. Repair Impacted Areas
Once construction is complete and weather permits, our crews return to restore the affected areas by raking, seeding, and applying straw to the lawns.
