BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — City contractor crews began work on a signal modernization project at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Golden Avenue this week.

The signal modernization project will include the replacement of the existing wooden poles with steel strain poles, and will provide the intersection with new traffic signals, pedestrian pushbuttons, cabinet, traffic detection, and protected left turns. Sidewalks, ramps, and pavement markings will also be updated as part of this project.

The specific area impacted by the temporary lane closures and shifts includes:

  • Intersection of Riverside Drive and Golden Avenue

Although there are no expected complete road closures during this signal modernization work, neighbors should obey any temporary lane closures and shifts that will be required to perform the work, and be aware of crews and equipment in the area during work hours.

Crews began this signal modernization work this week, and expect the work to be completed by Oct. 31. Work hours will generally be from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., and crews will be mindful around the arrival and dismissal times for Riverside Elementary School during the remainder of this school year.

The first phase of the signal modernization project will include foundation placement and underground work, occurring over the next four to six weeks. The new steel strain poles will then be installed once they're delivered later this fall.

We appreciate everyone’s patience during all work on our city’s infrastructure.
